Belgian shipping company EXMAR, in partnership with Seapeak, has unveiled the first two of six dual-fuel LPG/ammonia midsize gas carriers (MGCs) at a naming ceremony on January 6, 2025, at the HD Hyundai Mipo shipyard in South Korea. The vessels, Champagny and Courchevel, are part of an innovative fleet aimed at sustainable maritime operations.

Ordered in 2022, the 46,000 cbm ships fly the French flag. The first unit is slated for delivery by the end of Q1 2025, with the remaining vessels to follow through May 2026.These groundbreaking oceangoing vessels will feature dual-fuel engines, with the first two powered by LPG and the latter four by ammonia. Managed by EXMAR LPG France, a newly established entity, the fleet represents a milestone in green shipping, advancing alternative fuel technology in the gas transportation sector.
