Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has confirmed a fire incident aboard its vessel, YM Mobility, which occurred at the Port of Ningbo on August 09, 2024. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with initial reports indicating that the incident originated from an explosion in a container carrying hazardous materials.

According to preliminary findings, the container, declared by the shipper as a reefer, was being utilized as a substitute for a dry container and did not require a power connection. The explosion triggered a fire on board, prompting immediate response measures. Yang Ming has reported that the situation is now under control, with no injuries to the crew, who were safely evacuated from the vessel.In response to the emergency, Huan Ming (Shanghai) International Shipping Agency Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Yang Ming Group, is closely collaborating with local authorities to manage the aftermath of the incident and to ensure the safety of the port operations.The YM Mobility, a Liberian-registered containership built in 2011, is currently assigned to the Far East to/from Middle East service (CGX).
