Hamburg-based TB Marine has secured a contract with China's Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding for the construction of up to eight chemical tankers. The deal includes the firm order of four 22,000 dwt IMO type II vessels, set for delivery inT 2027, with an option for an additional four newbuilds. Financial details of the contract remain undisclosed.Founded in 2005 by Steffen Thate and Stephan Bracker, TB Marine has established itself as a significant player in the maritime industry. The company currently owns 20 vessels, according to VesselsValue, spanning the tanker and boxship segments, and manages approximately 50 vessels.

This move comes amid a surge in demand for chemical tanker tonnage, with several other owners placing similar orders in recent months. Notable entrants include China's Junzheng Group, Denmark’s Rederiet MH Simonsen, and fellow German owner GEFO, all of whom have expanded their fleets with new chemical tankers.TB Marine’s strategic expansion aligns with the broader industry trend, reflecting a robust market outlook for chemical transport. The addition of these new vessels is expected to enhance TB Marine’s operational capacity and market presence in the coming years.
