GEFO has announced a significant investment in its fleet with the order of two state-of-the-art chemical tankers. The vessels, each with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 7,900, will feature stainless steel tanks and the highest ice class 1A certification. The contract also includes options for two additional vessels. The tankers will be constructed at the Nantong Xiangyu Shipyard in Nantong, China, with deliveries scheduled for late 2026 and early 2027.

These new ships are specifically designed to withstand the challenging weather conditions often encountered in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. To enhance fuel efficiency, the output of the main engines has been reduced, allowing operation within an optimal speed range. This design approach not only conserves fuel but also supports sustainable shipping practices.

Furthermore, the vessels will be equipped with features to facilitate future technological advancements. The hulls are prepared for the installation of fuel-saving Flettner rotors, and provisions have been made for potential retrofitting with methanol engines. These enhancements reflect GEFO’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship in maritime operations. This strategic expansion underscores GEFO’s dedication to maintaining a modern, efficient fleet capable of meeting the highest standards of performance and environmental compliance.
