Sirius Shipping has announced the placement of an order for four state-of-the-art 7,999 dwt oil/chemical tankers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Dingheng. The vessels, designed to meet future regulatory requirements, will feature cutting-edge technologies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability.
These new vessels mark a significant advancement from Sirius Shipping’s earlier models, Saturnus and Mercurius. Equipped with hybrid battery systems of 420 kWh for peak shaving of both main and auxiliary engines, the ships are designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Additionally, a 1,000 kW shore power system will enable zero-emission loading and unloading operations in ports.
The main specifications of the tankers include a length of 119.9 meters, a beam of 19.4 meters, and a draft of 7.23 meters, with a cargo capacity of 9,700 m³. The ships feature MARINELINE-coated tanks capable of handling up to 11 cargo grades, ICE Class 1A certification, and a "Take Me Home" functionality for enhanced safety. Furthermore, their design achieves an Estimated Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) 40% below the 2025 Phase III requirements. This investment underscores Sirius Shipping’s commitment to sustainable and efficient maritime operations. Delivery timelines have not yet been disclosed.
