Varna-based IHB Shipping, a unit of Industrial Holding Bulgaria (IHB), has taken significant steps to renew its fleet through a deal with Chinese shipbuilder New Dayang. The agreement involves the construction of three ultramax newbuilds, with deliveries scheduled from the end of October 2027 to the end of May 2028.The deal, valued at approximately $104.3 million, includes two confirmed units of the Crown 63 Plus design and an optional newbuild, with approval expected in July this year. The first newbuild is priced at $35.15 million, excluding additional works assigned during construction. The remaining two vessels, set for delivery in 2028, each carry a price tag of $34.6 million, according to the parent company.

These new vessels will be built by the shipbuilding division of state-run machinery manufacturer Sumec. This fleet renewal marks a strategic move for IHB Shipping, which currently operates two supramax and two handy bulkers, all constructed at IHB’s Bulyard shipyard, with the last order placed in 2010.The acquisition reflects IHB Shipping's commitment to modernizing its fleet and enhancing its operational capabilities. This investment will position the company to better meet the demands of the maritime industry in the coming years.
