Fincantieri and Crystal Finalize Order for New Luxury Cruise Ship
https://tdl.ink/p/930written by Raghib . (about a month ago)
On November 8, Fincantieri and luxury cruise brand Crystal announced the confirmation of an order for a new high-end cruise vessel, following an option within the two-ship agreement publicized in June. This newbuild represents a significant investment, with financing and certain contractual terms still to be finalized.
The new cruise ship will mirror the specifications of its sister ships, with a gross tonnage of 61,800 tons and accommodations for around 690 guests. Renowned architectural firms are designing the interiors to emphasize premium materials and expert craftsmanship. The vessel will feature all-suite accommodations, including private verandas, and introduce single-occupancy suites for solo travelers, further enhancing Crystal’s offerings. Additionally, a high crew-to-passenger ratio will ensure that each guest receives attentive, personalized service.
Fincantieri’s latest contract reflects its broader strategy to expand in the luxury cruise sector by delivering state-of-the-art, sustainable vessels. As a leader in advanced shipbuilding, Fincantieri is focused on developing environmentally-friendly ships that align with industry demands for greater comfort and eco-conscious design. This order reinforces the commitment of both companies to setting new standards in the premium cruise market.

Amid heightened tensions in the Red Sea, Crystal Cruises' vessel, CRYSTAL SYMPHONY, encountered a concerning situation during its repositioning voyage from Mumbai to the Mediterranean, without passengers. The UK Maritime Trade Operations received reports that the ship, located northwest of Al Hudaydah, Yemen, was contacted by an entity claiming to be the Yemeni Navy, requesting deactivation of its AIS tracking system. Although a crew member reported suspected gunfire, investigations revealed no such incident occurred. Despite warnings, Crystal Symphony continues its journey, now nearing the Suez Canal, en route Limassol, Cyprus. The cruise line confirmed the vessel's safe transit, escorted by the US Navy. While passenger voyages were canceled earlier due to safety concerns, Crystal Symphony is set to resume its itinerary from Limassol to Athens on April 6, steering clear of high-risk areas.
