The containership CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN encountered severe weather conditions approximately 40 nautical miles south of Durban, South Africa, on 09 July 2024. The adverse weather resulted in the loss of approximately 44 containers overboard. Additionally, around 30 containers sustained damage due to the incident.Despite the loss and damage to the containers, the vessel itself did not sustain any significant damage and remains seaworthy. The vesssel is currently en route to Cape Town, where the damaged containers will be discharged or restowed. This action is necessary to ensure the safe continuation of the vessel's voyage.
