UECC to Add Up to Four Hybrid Vessels in Partnership with Chinese Shipyard
https://tdl.ink/p/916wrote by Raghib . (23 days ago)
United European Car Carriers (UECC) signed a contract on October 30 with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Nanjing for a potential addition of four multi-fuel battery hybrid car and truck carriers, marking a substantial fleet expansion for Europe’s leading sustainable RoRo carrier. The confirmed order includes two vessels expected in 2028, with an option for two more, potentially expanding UECC’s eco-friendly fleet to nine vessels, adding to the five similar ships delivered in recent years.
The new vessels feature advanced LNG-powered engines, optimized with cutting-edge propulsion technologies and an aerodynamic hull design rigorously tested to reduce fuel consumption. The ships are also equipped for shore power use and have solar panels installed on the top deck. With a length of 190 meters and 4,500 Car Equivalent Units (CEU) capacity, each ship boasts 10 decks, two of which are hoistable, and includes a quarter stern ramp with a 160-ton capacity for heavy cargo. These features align with UECC’s commitment to decarbonization and will enhance its European short-sea network by transporting vehicles, high and heavy, and rolling cargo more sustainably.
