A collision took place between the service operation vessel Wind of Hope and a wind turbine at Orsted’s 1200MW Hornsea 1 wind farm off the east coast of England. The incident took place at 18:38 on 19 September, when the vessel, operated by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, struck the turbine while carrying 26 crew members and 46 specialists. Authorities have reported no injuries or pollution related to the accident. Damage has been identified above the waterline of the vessel, as well as on the helideck, though no water ingress was observed. The Wind of Hope will proceed to port for a detailed assessment of the damage.
Moreover, damage has been reported at the base of the affected turbine, leading to the establishment of an exclusion zone around the area. A representative from Louis Dreyfus Armateurs confirmed that all necessary authorities have been informed, and a thorough investigation into the cause of the collision is underway. Orsted has committed to conducting a full inspection of the turbine to evaluate the damage and estimate the duration of repairs needed. An investigation has been initiated following the incident.

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA), a prominent French family-owned shipowner, has placed an order for two newly constructed 27-meter crew transfer vessels (CTVs) from Strategic Marine in Singapore. This acquisition will bolster LDA’s fleet from five to seven vessels, with the new units serving as sister ships to the Acti’Vent and Esti’Vent CTVs. Designed under the StratCat 27 model, these vessels will facilitate the transportation of 24 passengers to offshore wind farms. Delivery is anticipated in early 2025, aligning with LDA’s strategic initiative to expand its presence in the offshore renewables sector across France and Europe.
Gaël Cailleaux, Managing Director of Renewables at Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, emphasized, “These new orders are part of our strategy to grow our offshore renewables business in France and Europe, anticipating the evolving needs of the French offshore wind industry.” This development underscores LDA's commitment to enhancing its capabilities in the renewable energy sector while meeting the growing demands of global offshore wind markets.
