On November 11, Hanwha Ocean announced a substantial contract with Maran Gas Maritime Inc., the LNG shipping subsidiary of Greece’s largest shipping group, Angelicoussis. The order, valued at 713.5 billion won, covers the construction of two advanced LNG carriers, scheduled for delivery in 2027. Notably, the agreement includes an option for two additional vessels, signifying potential for expanded cooperation and reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Hanwha Ocean and Maran Gas Maritime.

The new LNG carriers will be constructed at Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje Shipyard in South Gyeongsang Province, Korea, and are designed with a 174,000-cubic-meter capacity, meeting the demands of large-scale LNG transport. Equipped with Hanwha Ocean’s high-efficiency ME-GI propulsion engines and full re-liquefaction systems (FRS), the vessels are expected to outperform standard LNG carriers in both fuel efficiency and emissions reduction. To further optimize energy use and environmental impact, Hanwha Ocean will incorporate its latest eco-friendly technologies, including an air lubrication system (ALS) and a shaft generator motor (SGM), into the vessels.

This contract represents a major step in Hanwha Ocean’s commitment to sustainable shipping, underscoring its role in providing innovative solutions to meet evolving global standards for fuel efficiency and environmental responsibility.
