Parkol Marine Engineering was established 50 years ago as a boat repair company by Ken Parker and the late John Oliver. Based at Spital Bridge in Whitby before moving to the town’s Eskside Wharf in 1992, we have grown tenfold and are now recognised as one of the leading boat builders in the UK.
Ken retired in the mid-1980s and John’s wife Esther remained company secretary. Jim Morrison joined the business as a Director in 1988 after going into partnership with John.
Jim’s son James Morrison joined the business from school in 1991 and later Andrew Oliver, John’s son, joined in 1998. More recently, Jim’s daughter Sally joined Parkol in 2013. Respected marine architect Ian Paton is the company’s technical director.
Today’s team share the passion of the two founders, as well as adding their wide-ranging experience of everything from fabrication to engineering, civil engineering, project management and design innovation which are defining the next, exciting stage of our evolution.
In 2017, we opened a second yard in Middlesbrough to enable us to service unprecedented demand and build bigger and more diverse types of vessel.more
