UK shipowner Union Maritime has expanded its tanker orderbook with a new contract for up to four LR2/aframax newbuilds in China. The agreement, led by Laurent Cadji, includes two firm orders for 113,600 deadweight tonnage (dwt) crude and product carriers, with options for an additional two vessels. These newbuilds, designed by SDARI, will incorporate LNG dual-fuel propulsion and comply with Tier III NOx emission standards.

 The construction of these vessels will be undertaken by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry, although specific details regarding pricing and delivery dates have not been disclosed. This latest order follows Union Maritime's recent booking of 18,500 dwt chemical tankers at Fujian Mawei, which will also be executed by Xiamen Shipbuilding. The company recently expanded its fleet further by signing contracts for four more 18,500 dwt chemical tankers and two 49,000 dwt MR2 vessels at China's Wuhu Shipyard. This strategic move underscores Union Maritime's commitment to enhancing its fleet with state-of-the-art, environmentally compliant vessels.
