Hong Kong, 28 November, Pacific Basin Shipping Limited (2343.HK), a global leader in dry bulk shipping, has announced the procurement of four advanced dual-fuel low-emission vessels (LEVs). This strategic move follows a two-and-a-half-year collaboration with Japanese partners Nihon Shipyard Co., Ltd. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.
The 64,000 dwt vessels, designed to operate on green methanol and fuel oil, are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029. Two vessels will be built jointly by Nihon Shipyard Co. and Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., while the remaining two are contracted with Mitsui & Co. All four ships will be constructed by Nihon Shipyard Co., incorporating the latest fuel-efficient engines and enhanced safety features.
Pacific Basin has highlighted green methanol, produced from sustainable feedstocks and renewable energy, as a preferred low-carbon marine fuel. The dual-fuel engines also allow operation on biofuel and conventional fuel oil, offering flexibility and supporting decarbonization goals.
The Company emphasized that this marks an essential step toward achieving net-zero emissions, while remaining open to reassessing alternative green fuels as technology and market dynamics evolve. This milestone reinforces Pacific Basin’s commitment to sustainable maritime innovation and environmental stewardship.
