Pacific International Lines Orders Five LNG Dual-Fuel Vessels to Boost Eco-Friendly Fleet
https://tdl.ink/p/924发布人 Raghib . (about a month ago)
Pacific International Lines (PIL) has announced an expansion of its fleet renewal initiative with a new order for five 9,000-TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container vessels, furthering its commitment to sustainable shipping. This order, placed with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese shipbuilder, follows a previous August 2024 order for five 13,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel vessels. The newly ordered vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028.
The 9,000-TEU vessels will incorporate advanced cargo stowage optimization, enhancing PIL’s service capabilities. Designed to align with stringent environmental standards, the ships will operate on LNG with future adaptability to bio-methane, one of the most eco-friendly fuels available. Enhanced with digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), these vessels will offer improved route planning, real-time monitoring, and cargo management, ensuring efficient and reliable operations.
Each ship will meet the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) requirements. They will include energy-saving features, such as a streamlined hull, variable-frequency drive motors, shaft generators, LED lighting, and high-performance hull coatings, marking PIL’s continued dedication to greener shipping solutions.

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has announced a significant enhancement to its fleet with the acquisition of five new container vessels, each boasting a capacity of 13,000 TEUs. These neo-Panamax vessels will be constructed by Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, a distinguished Chinese shipbuilding entity, with delivery scheduled to commence at the end of 2026.
The new vessels are designed with a comprehensive focus on efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability. They will be equipped with advanced LNG dual-fuel engines, allowing them to operate on both liquefied natural gas and low-sulphur fuel oil. This dual-fuel capability is complemented by a suite of cutting-edge technological and energy-saving features, including an optimised hull-form, variable-frequency drive motors, energy-efficient LED lighting, and premium hull coatings.
In adherence to the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), these vessels will meet stringent regulatory standards for new builds. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) into the vessel's design will further enhance operational efficiency, route optimization, and safety.
