Helsinki, May 15 – Electramar, the inaugural vessel in a series of twelve plug-in hybrid ships, was officially christened today at a ceremony in Helsinki’s city center. This groundbreaking vessel is being constructed by Chowgule and Company shipyard in India for AtoB@C Shipping, a subsidiary of ESL Shipping.Paula Ojala, Chartering Manager at the global steel company SSAB and a long-standing client of both AtoB@C Shipping and ESL Shipping, had the honor of serving as the vessel’s godmother.Electramar stands out for its advanced technology, achieving up to a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to current generation ships.

This significant environmental benefit is made possible through its shore power connectivity, substantial battery installation, and enhanced cargo capacity. Additionally, the vessel ensures quieter and cleaner operations while docked.Designed to transport a diverse array of bulk and breakbulk products—including steel, forest products, fertilizers, and project cargoes—Electramar features a long, unobstructed deck. This design facilitates the loading of more deck cargo and longer project cargoes than existing fleet vessels.Meanwhile, Stellamar, the second vessel in the series, is en route from India to Europe via the Cape of Good Hope. Production of the ninth vessel, Fleximar, began in April with a steel-cutting ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the series' progression.
