Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co. (NBOSCO), a Shanghai-listed subsidiary of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group, has initiated the construction of two battery-powered feeder boxships at Jiangxi Jiangxin Shipbuilding. These vessels, with a capacity of 740 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and will operate along the Chinese coast.

Each of the newbuilds will be equipped with two 875 kW permanent magnet propulsion motors, enabling a maximum speed of 11.5 knots. The propulsion system will be powered by ten box battery cells with a combined capacity of approximately 19,000 kWh. Measuring 127.8 meters in length, these vessels have been developed and designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute and are poised to be among the largest pure-electric boxships, reflecting China's commitment to advancing electric vessel technology.
