Tersan Shipyard, in collaboration with Tersan Havyard, has officially commenced steel cutting for four advanced battery-powered ferries commissioned by Norled, marking a significant milestone in green maritime technology. The ceremony, held at Tersan’s Yalova facilities, included key representatives from Tersan Havyard, Norled AS, DNB, and LMG Marin AS. This project signifies the first collaboration between Tersan Shipyard and Tersan Havyard, reflecting their joint commitment to sustainable maritime solutions.
Designed by Norway-based LMG Marin, each ferry will be 84.5 meters long and 15 meters wide, with the capacity to carry 60 vehicles and 250 passengers, including crew members. Equipped with an impressive 8,000 kWh battery capacity, these ferries will feature Norway’s largest battery-powered propulsion system to date, underscoring a commitment to significantly reduce emissions. The vessels are projected to achieve up to a 90% reduction in emissions compared to conventional ferries.
The four ferries are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and will begin operations on the Stokkvågen-Lovund and Stokkvågen-Træna routes in 2027. Norled anticipates that these ferries will establish new standards for sustainable, energy-efficient ferry operations in Norway, contributing to the country’s environmental goals.
