Cape Shipping, a longstanding player in the maritime industry based in Athens, is expanding its fleet with new ventures into the tanker market. The Andrianopoulos family, owners of Cape Shipping, has initiated its first tanker newbuilding project, securing orders from prominent Chinese shipyards. Reports indicate orders for two 158,000 dwt suezmax tankers from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, valued at approximately $168 million, set to be delivered in 2026 and 2027. Additionally, Cape Shipping has secured orders for two 115,000 dwt LR2s from the same yard, each priced at around $66 million, scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026. Further, the company has contracted Yangzijiang Shipbuilding for a pair of 74,000 dwt product tankers at $54 million each, to be added to Cape Shipping’s fleet in 2027. This move marks Cape Shipping's strategic diversification from its traditional focus on dry cargo, with its last newbuild orders dating back to 2018.
