Royal Caribbean Group has formalized an agreement with Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku to commission a fourth vessel within its Icon Class series, slated for delivery in 2027. This contract also provides Royal Caribbean International with the option to extend the series by constructing a fifth and sixth ship of the same class.

The Icon Class, introduced in January 2024, marked a significant milestone in the cruise industry by merging elements of a beach retreat, resort escape, and theme park adventure into a unified vacation experience. The first vessel in the series set a new standard for luxury and innovation at sea. The subsequent ship, Star of the Seas, is scheduled to launch in 2025, followed by a third, as-yet-unnamed vessel in 2026.

Silversea, under the Royal Caribbean Group, has recently acquired its latest addition, Silver Ray, marking the second ship in its esteemed Nova Class, sourced from the renowned shipbuilder Meyer Werft in Germany. Boasting a gross tonnage of 54,700 and a capacity to accommodate 728 passengers, Silver Ray stands as a pinnacle of energy efficiency and luxury in the realm of expedition cruise ships, alongside its sibling, Silver Nova. Distinguishing features of Silversea's Nova Class encompass an innovative asymmetrical design and an expansive 4,000 square meters of exterior glass.

 After traversing approximately 40 kilometers along the River Ems from Meyer Werft's shipyard in Papenburg in late April, Silver Ray concluded its rigorous technical and nautical sea trials in the North Sea on May 8. Scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage from Lisbon come June 15, Silver Ray is poised to grace the Mediterranean waters for its inaugural season before embarking on a transatlantic journey to the Americas, slated for December 2024. Singapore-based shipbuilding firm, Seatrium, has clinched contracts worth S$350 million ($259m), covering a spectrum of vessel projects set for completion by 2025. Notable deals include converting three LNG carriers into FSRUs for Karpowership, commencing in Q2 2024, with a potential fourth project. Seatrium will also collaborate with Modec to upgrade Woodside Energy's Pyrenees Venture FPSO, aiming for redeployment off Western Australia's coast.

 Further projects entail major remediation work for Chevron in Thailand, starting Q2 2024, and significant repairs on the Hakuryu 5 semi-submersible drilling rig. Additionally, Seatrium will conduct LNGC dry dockings for Hyundai LNG Shipping and naval work. A significant portion of Seatrium's recent haul involves retrofitting ten cruise vessels, six from Carnival and four from Royal Caribbean. These developments underscore Seatrium's stature as a leading shipbuilder, reinforcing its pivotal role in the maritime industry's ongoing evolution.
