Reederei Bernd Sibum, a prominent German shipping company, has commissioned Damen Shipyards Group to construct four Combi Freighter 3850 vessels, with delivery slated for early 2026. The new ships are designed to bolster the sustainability and operational efficiency of the company's fleet, aligning with modern maritime standards.
The Combi Freighter 3850s incorporate advanced design features that offer a 30% increase in fuel efficiency. These vessels are hybrid-ready, capable of operating on biofuels and equipped for future upgrades, including wind-assist technology, battery-powered propulsion systems, and enhanced shore power connections. Such advancements position the freighters at the forefront of environmentally conscious shipping solutions, meeting both current and anticipated regulations.
Incorporating batteries for port operations and peak shaving through the bow thruster, the vessels further underscore their focus on energy efficiency. Damen Yichang Shipyard in China will oversee construction, with engineering and design handled in Drachten, the Netherlands. Post-delivery, these freighters will operate in the short-sea shipping sector of northwest Europe, a market that demands ongoing fleet modernization.
The CF 3850’s compliance with the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards ensures adaptability to future technologies, supporting the company's goal of staying at the cutting edge of sustainable shipping practices.
