X-Press Feeders has placed an order for six eco-friendly, methanol-ready containerships from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). These 11,000 TEU vessels, fitted with scrubbers and various energy-saving technologies, are scheduled for delivery between the third quarter of 2027 and the fourth quarter of 2028.

The decision to return to SWS reflects X-Press Feeders' ongoing fleet renewal strategy aimed at modernizing its fleet with environmentally sustainable vessels. These ships are designed to optimize fuel efficiency, reduce drag, and minimize carbon emissions, aligning with the company's commitment to greener shipping solutions. The vessels will also feature windshields and scrubbers to further enhance operational efficiency.

While specific deployment plans for the vessels have yet to be disclosed, X-Press Feeders stated that these details will be announced closer to the delivery dates. The new ships will provide the necessary capacity and tonnage to support the company's core trade routes, contributing to its broader strategy of sustainable fleet expansion. The investment marks another significant step in X-Press Feeders' efforts to reduce its environmental impact while maintaining competitive and efficient shipping operations.

X-Press Feeders, the world's largest independent common carrier, has launched Europe's first scheduled feeder network powered by green methanol, a sustainable marine fuel that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65%. This milestone coincided with the naming and christening ceremony of X-Press Feeders' first dual-fuel methanol-powered vessel, Eco-Maestro, in Rotterdam. The vessel was built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.

Eco-Maestro is the inaugural vessel of 14 dual-fuel ships ordered by X-Press Feeders, which plans to primarily deploy these vessels on European routes. This initiative aligns with the European Union’s implementation of an emissions trading scheme (ETS) for maritime shipping and the upcoming Fuel EU Maritime regulations starting in January 2025, which mandate the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity for energy used on board ships.

The new methanol-powered feeder network includes two services: Green Finland X-PRESS (GFX), connecting Rotterdam, Antwerp Bruges, Helsinki, Tallinn, and HaminaKotka, and Green Baltic X-PRESS (GBX), linking Rotterdam, Antwerp Bruges, Klaipeda, and Riga. Green bio-methanol, a renewable energy source produced from organic matter, is independently certified in Europe under ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification).

Singapore-based independent common carrier X-Press Feeders has reaffirmed its commitment to eco-friendly shipping by commissioning four 11,000 TEU methanol-fueled containerships from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The shipbuilding contract for these advanced vessels was signed in Shanghai on May 29, 2024.

These 11,000 TEU containerships represent a new generation of environmentally friendly, medium-sized vessels independently developed and designed by SWS to meet growing market demand for sustainable shipping solutions. The vessels are equipped with state-of-the-art features, including scrubbers, windshields, and various energy-saving and drag-reduction technologies, which collectively enhance speed, fuel efficiency, and significantly reduce carbon emissions. In conjunction with the signing ceremony, SWS also celebrated the naming and delivery of X-Press Pyxis, the final vessel in a series of 7,000 TEU containerships constructed in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading.

Singapore-based independent common carrier X-Press Feeders has taken delivery of its first green methanol-powered containership, constructed by Chinese shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group. The 1,260 TEU vessel, delivered on May 16, 2024, features a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on green methanol, marking a significant milestone in Europe's first feeder network powered by this renewable energy source.

X-Press Feeders, which manages a fleet exceeding 100 vessels, has fourteen dual-fuel ships on order. These ships, each with a capacity of approximately 1,200 TEU and an overall length of 148 meters, are scheduled for delivery from the first quarter of 2024 through mid-2026. The newly delivered vessel, the first green methanol-powered containership built in China, will embark on its maiden voyage from Shanghai to the Port of Rotterdam via the Suez Canal, utilizing bio-methanol, a renewable energy source derived from organic matter decomposition, for the journey.
