The Salvamento Marítimo maritime rescue service initiated the evacuation of passengers from the GNV shipping company's ferry, ‘Tenacia’, to its sister vessel, ‘Bridge’, using the rescue vessel ‘Salvamar Libertas’. The ‘Tenacia’, which was adrift at dawn following a fire in the engine room, carried 350 passengers and 61 crew members. The vessel was located north of Ibiza, 53 miles from Dragonera, and was scheduled to be towed to Valencia once it was deemed safe.  The towing to the port of origin was planned to proceed “when all safety measures were confirmed.”Salvamento Marítimo reported that the fire had triggered the safety protocols of the coordination centres in Palma, Barcelona, Tarragona, and Madrid, as well as the Capitanía Marítima de Palma. Under the direction of Capitanía Marítima, the rescue ships Acrux, Libertas, and the SAR vessels Mesana and Marta Mata were dispatched to the scene. Helicopters Helimer 221, Helimer 207, and Helimer 203 also responded.

Although the fire had been extinguished, hot spots remained. Helimer 207 transported three MIRG firefighters from the Generalitat to assess the situation and its potential towing by a private company to the Port of Valencia. An additional six firefighters were expected to be transferred the following morning. The fire, which originated in the engine room, had caused smoke to reach deck 3. Firefighters worked overnight to extinguish the blaze while passengers were moved to the boat deck. Ongoing efforts included monitoring hot spots and ensuring the vessel was safe for towing. GNV had contracted a commercial tug to manage the vessel's movement to Valencia.
