Xingtong Shipping, a prominent player in China’s chemical tanker market, has announced plans to further expand its fleet with an investment in six new stainless steel vessels. The Shanghai-listed firm’s subsidiary, Xingtong Kaicheng Shipping, will allocate up to RMB 1.4 billion ($195.5 million), excluding tax, towards the construction of two methanol dual-fuel tankers, each with a capacity of 25,900 deadweight tons (dwt), and four additional tankers, each with a capacity of 13,000 dwt.

The shipyard responsible for these newbuilds has not yet been disclosed, although Xingtong previously contracted Wuchang Shipbuilding, a division of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) specializing in chemical tankers, for similar methanol-powered vessels of 25,900 dwt. Wuchang has been actively involved in several large-scale projects this year, including agreements to construct up to ten vessels for the Junzheng Group.

This expansion aligns with Xingtong Shipping’s strategic focus on enhancing its fleet capacity and adopting dual-fuel technology to improve environmental efficiency. The dual-fuel methanol capability reflects the company’s commitment to lowering emissions in compliance with international environmental standards, positioning Xingtong as a forward-thinking operator in the chemical shipping sector.
