Overhauling is carried out by dismantling all the engine components, then these components are checked properly, if there are any damages then these components are eliminated and new components are installed, there are various companies which are making engines, so they all have their own way of dismantling and installing these engine components. As Piston is the most important component of a marine engine, it is inspected properly and new piston is installed, if necessary, otherwise in case of minor damage it is not necessary. Piston should be properly cleaned; it should be ensured that all the carbon from the piston is washed.
The measurements are also to be checked when overhauling is carried out, most of the times because of incorrect measurements the engine life is shortened. In case of cylinder head, it should be cleaned neatly with the help of correct methods for cleaning, also it could be replaced if necessary. All valves, connecting rods must be checked thoroughly. After overhauling the necessary components, all the earlier components which are safe from wear and tear are installed back in the engine, according to their place, it should be carried out properly, and with proper checking otherwise it can cause failure of engine.
