The Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) is one of the four public shipyards operated by the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). It is located in Portsmouth, Virginia, and is responsible for maintaining and repairing the US Navy's fleet of ships and submarines. The shipyard provides a wide range of services, including: Drydocking and repairs of ships and submarines Overhaul and modernization of ships and submarines Maintenance and repair of ship systems and equipment Industrial and environmental support services Nuclear propulsion work on aircraft carriers and submarines Planning and execution of depot-level maintenance Fabrication and repair of ordnance The NNSY is one of the oldest shipyard in the United States and is the largest industrial employer in the Hampton Roads region. It has a deep-water pier and multiple drydocks which can accommodate the Navy's entire fleet of aircraft carriers, submarines and amphibious ships.
