DryDel also known as Meadway Shipping &Trading has marked its entry into the Capesize segment by placing an order for two state-of-the-art 182,000 dwt sister vessels with Japan’s Namura Shipbuilding. These advanced vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028, solidifying DryDel’s presence in the larger dry bulk market. The new Capesize vessels will feature scrubber systems for enhanced environmental compliance and operational efficiency. This strategic move capitalizes on the historically low orderbook for Capesize vessels, aligning with DryDel’s goal of diversifying its fleet while maintaining a competitive edge.
The project is structured as a joint venture with long-standing Japanese partners, underscoring the strength of their collaborative relationship. DryDel will assume full commercial and technical management of the vessels, ensuring seamless integration into its existing operations. This milestone follows the successful delivery of four 40,000 dwt vessels from Namura in 2024. It is part of a broader newbuilding program comprising 10 dry bulk vessels set to join DryDel’s fleet over the next four years.DryDel’s foray into the Capesize sector not only enhances its operational capabilities but also positions the company to meet evolving market demands in the global dry bulk shipping industry.

Drydel Shipping, formerly known as Meadway Shipping and Trading, has expanded its fleet by contracting its first newbuild under its new name. Led by Costas Dellaportas, the Greek bulker player secured a deal with Shin Kurushima Dockyard in Japan for the construction of a 64,000 dwt ultramax vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2026. While brokers estimate similar tonnage to cost between $34m and $35m, specific details of this order remain undisclosed. Drydel, established in February to distinguish itself from Meadway Bulkers founded by Costas' brother George Dellaportas in 2021, now boasts a fleet of 11 owned bulkers alongside 19 chartered-in ships. With an additional 10 newbuilds set for delivery between 2024 and 2026, Drydel solidifies its position in the shipping industry.
